Limited Submissions Due this Summer

Below are some of the limited submissions with internal deadlines in late May into early August.

To be considered for these opportunities, please send a letter of intent (LOI) to Beth Keithly by the internal deadline.

The LOI for any internal limited submission needs to be a one page document (it may be a bit longer or shorter, but it shouldn’t be longer than a page and a half) that answers the following questions:

  • What is the project you want to propose?
  • Why is it a good project and how does it fit the program you are applying to?
  • Who is on your team?

Research Training Programs in the Education Sciences

  • Sponsor: Department of Education
  • Project description: The training programs aim to prepare individuals to conduct rigorous and relevant education research that advances knowledge within the field and addresses issues important to education policymakers and practitioners.
  • Internal deadline: 5/20/2016
  • Sponsor deadline: 8/4/2016
  • UT Dallas may submit:  One application

Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers

  • Sponsor: National Science Foundation
  • Project description: For university-based centers and institutes where the collective efforts of a larger group of individuals can enable transformational advances in the most promising research areas. The program is designed to foster major breakthroughs at the intellectual frontiers of physics by providing needed resources such as combinations of talents, skills, disciplines, and/or specialized infrastructure, not usually available to individual investigators or small groups, in an environment in which the collective efforts of the larger group can be shown to be seminal to promoting significant progress in the science and the education of students.
  • Internal deadline: 6/6/2016
  • Sponsored deadline: 7/1/2016 (preliminary proposal)
  • UT Dallas may submit: One preliminary proposal

NIMHD Endowment Program for Increasing Research and Institutional Resources (S21)

  • Sponsor: National Institutes of Health/US Department of Health and Human Services
  • Project description: To build capacity and research infrastructure, and to facilitate minority health and health disparities research at eligible institutions, but not to directly support the research projects itself.
  • Internal deadline: 6/20/2016
  • Sponsor deadline: 9/4/2016
  • UT Dallas may submit: One proposal

CPRIT High-Impact/High-Risk Research Awards (HIHR)

  • Sponsor: Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas
  • Project description: CPRIT intends to support innovative, developmental projects that focus on exceptionally promising topics that are not yet sufficiently mature to compete successfully for more conventional funding.
  • Internal deadline: 7/29/2016
  • Sponsor deadline: 10/13/2016 (anticipated)
  • UT Dallas may submit: Five applications

NEH Summer Stipends

  • Sponsor: National Foundation for the Arts and Humanities/National Endowment for the Humanities
  • Project description: Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Eligible projects usually result in articles, monographs, books, digital materials and publications, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources. Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development.
  • Internal deadline: 8/5/2016

  • UT Dallas may submit: Two applications

Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) in Engineering and Computer Science – Supplements and Sites

  • Sponsor: National Science Foundation
  • Project description: This program supports active long-term collaborative partnerships between K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering, Computer and Information Science, and Mathematics (STEM) teachers, as well as community college and university faculty and students to bring knowledge of engineering or computer and information science and engineering, as well as technological innovation to pre-college/community college classrooms. The goal of these partnerships is to enable K-12 STEM teachers and community college faculty to translate their research experiences and new knowledge gained in university settings into their classroom activities.

  • Sponsor deadline: 11/2/2016
  • UT Dallas may submit: Up to three proposals (Two proposals may have an engineering focus and one proposal may have a computer and/or information science focus.)

Autism Speaks: Dennis Weatherstone Predoctoral Fellowship Program

  • Sponsor: Autism Speaks
  • Project description: The Dennis Weatherstone Fellows will work directly with mentors who are leading scientists in autism related research. This program supports the growth of a promising cadre of young scientists who will make autism research their chosen field. In order to cross-fertilize ideas and facilitate a network of collaboration, the Weatherstone program will include group interaction among the class of fellows, as well as an annual meeting with the Weatherstone family and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
  • Internal deadline: 8/25/2016
  • Sponsor deadline: 11/5/2016 (anticipated)
  • UT Dallas may submit: Unlimited, but a mentor (faculty member) can only submit one application
