Information

Shipments from UTD that contain hazardous materials or dangerous goods must be packaged and shipped by safety experts in the Office of Research Compliance to ensure compliance with regulations of the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the International Air Transportation Association (IATA). The regulations governing the shipment of hazardous materials are complex and ORC personnel have specialized, documented training to ensure the materials are properly packaged, labeled, and the appropriate shipping documentation is prepared and maintained.

Items commonly shipped that are likely to be classified as DOT Hazardous Material packages include bulk materials, samples, or equipment that contains:

  • Hazardous chemicals
  • Biological materials
  • Radioactive materials
  • Lithium Batteries
  • Dry ice

You must contact the Office of Research Compliance before packing and shipping any hazardous materials or dangerous goods. Please also review the UT Dallas Hazardous Materials Shipping Procedures.
