Overview

The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) Masters Accelerator Research Support (MARS) Program is an internal funding opportunity designed to encourage research and entrepreneurially oriented master’s degree students to forward their ideas. This opportunity was created through a collaboration of the Office of Research and Innovation and the Office of Graduate Education. 

Program Information

  • The maximum support amount will be $1,000.
  • If selected, funds will be applied directly to tuition and fees through the Financial Aid Office.
  • Applicants must submit their application via the Apply Now button below.
  • Only one application per newly enrolled* master’s student will be accepted.
  • Receiving this support does not qualify the recipient for in-state tuition.

We are not accepting proposals at this time.

MARS recipients will be announced within 2 weeks of completion of the reviews, and funding will be available soon thereafter.

Eligibility Guidelines 

  • Applicants must be enrolled in 9 credit hours for the fall 2021 semester by June 15, 2021.
  • Applications may only be submitted by newly enrolled* master’s students.

Required Submission Materials

  • A brief description (no more than one page, not including references) for a general audience describing the research or entrepreneurial plan, focusing on the impact; including the plan for the effort to be accomplished during the first year at UT Dallas.
  • While a letter of support from a UT Dallas faculty member is not required, applicants are encouraged to engage with faculty to seek feedback prior to submission.
  • Documents should have 1-inch margins and use a 12-point font. Upload only one combined document (preferably in PDF format).

Application Review Process and Evaluation Criteria

MARS Program applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of UT Dallas faculty and staff with relevant research or entrepreneurial experience.

Based on the review of applications, the committee may offer suggestions of faculty with whom the applicants could collaborate to pursue their innovative ideas.

Other Terms and Conditions

  • Funds will be applied directly to the student’s account in the Financial Aid Office and will be utilized for tuition and fees.
