Dr. Chung Hwan Kim was awarded $531,303 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) through its CAREER program for his research on A Cross-Domain Approach to Improving the Attack Resilience of Robotic Systems. Dr. Kim’s research tackles a growing challenge of how to keep robotic systems safe and reliable when they operate in critical areas like healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, and defense.
Rather than focusing on just software or hardware, his research looks at how these components relate, developing tools to detect, respond to, and investigate attacks in real time. By addressing weaknesses across both domains, the aims of this research are to make robots more secure while also advancing cybersecurity education and hands-on learning opportunities. Overall, Dr. Kim’s research not only strengthens robotic systems but also contributes to the field of Computer Science.
