Dr. Kelly Jahn was granted $1,408,286 from the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) for her research project on the Effectiveness of an Individualized Progressive Treatment For Expanding Sound Tolerance in Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Crossover Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). This research focuses on studying and improving sound sensitivity in adults with autism and will examine a personalized treatment that helps adults with autism progressively get used to daily sounds that can feel overwhelming or stressful. Using a carefully designed clinical trial, the main goal for Dr. Jahn’s project is to find effective methods to minimize these sensory challenges and progress the daily life and well-being of adults with autism. The research in this project also aims to advance understanding on sensory processing issues and will contribute to the field of neuroscience and autism research.
