Batteries and Energy to Advance Commercialization and National Security
BEACONS encompasses The University of Texas at Dallas battery and energy storage initiatives in research, innovation, workforce development, and commercialization. BEACONS formed as the organization overseeing the UT Dallas and Leap Manufacturing Energy Storage Systems Campus, a $30 million award from the Department of Defense to bridge the gap between research and commercialization and identify key supply chain issues in domestic battery manufacturing.
North Texas Semiconductor Institute
In 2022, the US passed the Chips and Science Act, launching UT Dallas to consolidate university semiconductor activities and build a leading organization in Texas. The North Texas Semiconductor Institute is home to the nationally recognized North Texas Semiconductor – Workforce Development Consortium and highly awarded research centers and semiconductor fabrication facilities. Top industry members, such as Texas Instruments, support the institute in various ways.
