The 20/20 Focus On Research Seminar Series by the University of Texas at Dallas focuses on individuals conducting important research at UT Dallas.

This seminar, “Beyond antibiotics: towards novel therapies for recurrent urinary tract infection” by Dr. Nicole De Nisco, will discuss the development of new rUTI therapies.

Current antibiotic therapies are becoming less and less effective for women suffering from recurrent urinary tract infection (rUTI). My lab aims to develop new therapies for rUTI by investigating two aspects of the host environment that are important for determining infection outcome: inflammation and the resident microbiome. By understanding how UTI perturbs these host functions, we can develop therapies aimed at restoring a healthy environment that is able to resist recurrent infection and break the cycle of rUTI.
