Dr. Li Zhang, professor of Biological Sciences in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, was awarded $900,000 from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) for her research on Optimizing Therapeutic Strategies Against Lung Cancer Using Multimodality Imaging. Dr. Zhang’s project goal is to illuminate the mechanisms by which the new drugs targeting oxidative metabolism, alone or in combination with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, influence lung tumor growth, vasculature, and oxygenation. This will help her team discover novel strategies to alleviate tumor hypoxia and dramatically improve the therapeutic outcome of lung cancer patients.
