Expansion of NSF Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research Training

Effective July 31, 2023, the National Science Foundation (NSF) expanded the requirement of Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) training to include all personnel supported by NSF.

Who is affected?
All undergraduate/graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and other senior personnel supported by NSF funding are required to complete the training.

How often do I have to do the training?
Every 4 years.

How long does it take to complete the training?
The training can take between two and five hours to complete based on individual differences such as reading speed.

How do I know when I need to complete it?
The Office of Research and Innovation will send email reminders to project personnel alerting them of the need for the training.

How do we complete the training?
The CITI Program meets the NSF requirements.

How do I get to the training in CITI?

To add/remove courses to/from your account follow the steps below:

  1. Log into citiprogram.org
  2. Select MyCourses tab from the top left
  3. Select View Courses next to your organization, “University of Texas at Dallas”
  4. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page 
  5. Within the Learner Tools grey box, Select, “Add a Course”
  6. Add Responsible Conduct of Research course, then choose your discipline from the following selection:
    • Biomedical
    • Social and Behavioral
    • Physical Science
    • Humanities
    • Engineers
