Research expenditures, funds spent to conduct research, are the nationally accepted method to measure annual funds used on research activities. A research activity is represented by the amount spent by the sponsoring agency (expenditure) on a research project.

The following information includes the various reports of research expenditures. UT Dallas provides comprehensive information based on the criteria defined by the stakeholder. Due to the information being reported differently, the Office of Research and Innovation and the Office of Budget and Finance ensure that reported amounts link to the total University base expenditure amounts.

Additional facts, figures, and statistics regarding the UT Dallas’ research enterprise may be found at Office of Strategic Planning and Analysis and Office of Budget and Finance.

Criteria
Research Expenditures are classified by the Field of Study (FOS). Each departmental expense is identified to a Field of Study. For departments that do not fit one field of study, the expenses are allocated across each organization within the school. The central administrative expenses (OBF, VPR, Provost) are allocated across the schools to associate the expense with a FOS.
