With heightened federal scrutiny and increasing concerns regarding disclosure of all domestic and foreign appointments and financial resources, it is more important than ever that together we ensure the submission of accurate and complete information about project support to federal sponsors.

External relationships must be disclosed to UT Dallas and to the funding agency when they involve a UT Dallas researcher receiving compensation from or making a commitment of time and effort to another entity. Researchers must report whether the relationship also includes a titled position or affiliation, or the promise of financial resources or direct support. Titled positions or affiliations that do not involve compensation or time and effort must be reported in funding proposal documentation, but do not require disclosure pursuant to UT Dallas conflict of interest and commitment policies. Disclosure and approval of external relationships will be completed in compliance with funding agency rules and UT Dallas conflict of interest and commitment policies.

Biographical Sketches

Most sponsors require separate biographical sketches for all senior/key personnel and other significant contributors using a specified format.

All formats require a list of all the individual’s academic/professional appointments. This should include any titled domestic or foreign academic, professional or institutional position whether or not renumeration is received. Courtesy, adjunct and affiliate appointments must be listed.

Current and Pending/Other Support

Current and pending support is a term generally used by federal sponsors and other types of funding entities to request the submission of information about the key personnel’s research funding that is active, pending review, or awarded. This information is submitted at the time of proposal or prior to award. The format varies by sponsor. NSF and other sponsors tend to call this “Current and Pending” Support while NIH refers to it as “Other Support.”

Current and pending support documents should include all domestic and international active and pending support irrespective of whether the support is provided through UT Dallas or directly to the investigator. This includes non-profits and consulting agreements. All projects that require a time commitment must be reported, even if the support received is only in-kind (such as office/lab space, equipment, supplies, employees, students).
